"Am I actually competitive for Oxford or Cambridge?"
Score yourself on the 7 factors that decide Master’s and PhD admissions and funding, measured against 30+ real, recently accepted and funded applications, and finish with a clear next step, whether you’re applying this cycle, next cycle, or a few years from now!

Built by Dr Claire Bergstrom Johnson, Oxford DPhil, Clarendon Scholar, and Fellow, who went from 19 rejections across two application rounds to fully funded offers from Oxford and Cambridge.

Whatever your score, you leave with a plan.

Most people asking this question are a little afraid of the answer, so here is what happens when you finish the Roadmap:

If you’re applying this cycle, you’ll see which of your gaps can still be closed before your deadline, because application materials, funding and your network are the factors that move fastest.

If next cycle would give you a stronger shot, you’ll know exactly how to use that time.

And if you’re two to four years out, or reapplying after a rejection, you’ll get the longer build, which is the strongest position to apply from when it’s used well!

Most importantly, though, all 7 factors can be controlled and improved, and it doesn’t matter whether you haven’t opened an application portal yet or you’re about to hit submit.

WHERE MY STUDENTS STARTED

Vy applied to 10 programmes and was rejected by all 10 without a single interview.

The next cycle, with the same grades and CV but a different approach, 3 of the 4 programmes she applied to interviewed her, and she accepted an Oxford PhD with 4 years of full funding!

YOU'VE ALREADY DECIDED.

Deep down, you know you're meant for a Master's or PhD at one of the UK's most elite universities.

You've pictured it more times than you'd ever admit to anyone: the cobblestone streets, the dining halls, the library that stays open long after everyone sensible has gone home - the whole version of your life that begins the day your offer email arrives.

And then you open the application, and all of that certainty goes foggy. There are a hundred moving parts and no order to any of them. You don't know whether you're competitive, or already too late, or missing something obvious that everyone else somehow seems to understand!

So you close the tabs. Again. And you promise yourself you'll come back to it when you feel ready.

But here is what almost nobody says to you: what's stopping you probably isn't a lack of information.

(There is more free admissions advice online than you could read in a lifetime, and it has left you MORE overwhelmed, not less!)

What's stopping you is not knowing where you actually stand, and having no one to tell you, honestly and specifically, what to do about it.

That is the whole reason I made this.

This isn’t another pile of tips. It’s a diagnostic! In about an hour, it shows you where you sit right now across the 7 things Oxbridge and top UK postgraduate committees weigh, which of them are costing you the most, and the pathway from where you are to a fully funded offer, built around how much time you’ve got.

And every score band is calibrated against 30+ real applications that won places and funding across the sciences, social sciences and humanities, shared with me by former students and admits with their written permission.

I know which CVs won Clarendon Scholarships, which research proposals got into fully funded Wellcome programmes, and which personal statements were rejected one year and funded the next. Those files aren’t public, which is why the advice you’ve found online isn’t built on them!

WHAT'S INSIDE THE ROADMAP

This is the workbook I wish someone had put in my hands before my first round, back when I believed a bit of part-time undergraduate research and a good-enough CV would carry me! It didn't, and nobody warned me.

Inside, you'll:

Score yourself on my 7-Factor Competitiveness Method - the exact 7 things that decide postgraduate admissions and funding: your Academic Background, Research Experience, Supervisor Relationships, Application Materials, Funding Strategy, Interview Readiness, and the one almost nobody talks about, your Network and the unofficial paths into this world. Every band is calibrated against the real profiles I've watched get accepted and funded, so for once you're measuring yourself against what actually works, not against what the official websites tell you.

See exactly where to put your energy - because a near-perfect profile with one weak spot gets rejected, while a steady, well-rounded one gets in. This shows you the single gap that's holding you back the most, so you stop spreading yourself thin over things that were never the problem!

Start understanding how Oxbridge postgraduate admissions and funding really work - four insider truths that almost no one applying this cycle knows.

Get your own pathway - Sprint, Build, or Long Game, matched to your score and your timeline, with a playbook for the months ahead so you can stop guessing and start moving.

Read the real receipts - actual messages from applicants who were rejected, waitlisted, or convinced they weren't good enough, and who are now at Oxford and Cambridge, fully funded.

Plus my 4-Year Competitiveness Plan - a year-by-year build for anyone who’s still early, waiting for you inside the Roadmap. The Roadmap is a 51-page PDF workbook, ready the moment you check out.

By the final page, you'll understand things about this process that most of the people you're up against never will. And once you can see it, you can't unsee it!

WHY IS THE PRICE SO LOW?

Well, because I want this information to get into as many capable hands as possible!

Yes, it's true that a single hour with a private admissions consultant runs at least £150, if not more, and most of them have never sat on the other side of an Oxbridge admissions or funding decision.

Needless to say, I do things a little differently around here! But I DO still need to keep the lights on. :-)

So for less than a train ticket to London, or the cost of a nice dinner out -

you swap months (or years!) of circling for a plan.

What happens when applicants know where they stand:

FAQs
  • Is this only for PhD applicants?
No! The 7 factors apply at both levels, and I’ve worked with MPhil, MSc, MSt, MLitt and MA applicants as well as doctoral candidates.
  • I’m in the humanities. Is it calibrated for my field?
Yes. The applications behind the Roadmap span the sciences, social sciences and humanities, and I flag where a strong profile looks different by field. Law, business and medicine weigh some extra things, so in those fields treat it as a strong first read rather than the full picture.
  • What if I score badly?
Most people score low on at least one factor, including people who go on to win full funding, and nearly everyone scores a 1 or 2 on factor 7 the first time. Your score tells you where your effort will pay off, which is far more useful than a flattering result!
  • I’m applying this cycle. Is it too late?
No. The Sprint pathway is built for applicants with deadlines in the next 3 to 9 months. It shows you which gaps can still move before you submit and where to put the time you have left. If your score suggests another cycle would serve you better, it tells you that clearly, and why.
  • What if I’m two years from applying?
There’s a pathway built for exactly that! Applicants who see what a successful application looks like years before they write theirs tend to do best on both acceptances and funding.

My promise to you: even if this Roadmap does only one thing, showing you where you stand and exactly where to put your energy next, it will have saved you months of guessing in the dark. Because this is an instant-access digital product, all sales are final and I’m not able to offer refunds.

If you want to get accepted to a research Master's or PhD, you NEED research experience.

I found out the hard way that even part-time undergraduate research is usually not enough to be competitive. But how do you find additional experiences to add to your CV?

This guide exists to answer exactly that question! Inside, I show you:

Where the real research positions are hiding in both the UK and the US

The reverse-engineering method I've used to find and reach the right professors at Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, KCL, UCL, Edinburgh, and more

The method that maps a professor's whole network and turns a cold, ignored email into a warm introduction almost nobody thinks to make

Four outreach email templates, written to include what professors actually want to hear and leaving out the stuff that will get your email sent to "junk"

Plus the mistakes that sink most people's emails before they're even read

This is the exact method I used to uncover hidden research roles and reach the right professors, with four ready-to-send email templates! It's the single highest-leverage thing you can add to your CV if you're planning to apply for a research Master's or PhD.
